Tales From Outside the Flags … The Launching of ‘Undertow’

Saturday, 10th May saw the launch of Undertow: Gold Coast Anthology. With the byline “Tales From Outside the Flags,” the anthology is a collection of stories inspired by photographs from ‘Picture Gold Coast’, a compilation managed by the Gold Coast City Council’s Local Studies Library.

My story Coralesque, about a surfer who becomes horrifyingly one with the sea, shares the table of contents with some wonderful local and interstate talent; all representing the Gold Coast with their unique vision and creative slant.

I was interviewed about my Gold Coast connection, and what I hoped to convey with ‘Coralesque.’ If you’re interested, you can read it here: http://pranawriters.com/meet-gold-coast-anthology-authors-rebecca-fraser/

The Launch itself was beautifully executed. It was fabulous to see such a healthy turn out of author’s family and friends, readers and writers, and those simply interested in Gold Coast heritage.

Rob Molhoek MP for Southport opened the launch as the guest of honour. I was very pleased when he confessed that my story had kept him awake at night! (You’re welcome, Rob).

Cake was cut (see picture below – I’ve never seen a cake quite like it); speeches were made, raffles were drawn, authors mingled, and books were signed. All in all it was an afternoon of celebrations. My one regret … I forgot to eat a piece of cake!
